Also neededIncome-tax registration with SARS (automatic on CIPC reg.)
ThenBank account, and B-BBEE affidavit if relevant
Most formal businesses register a private company (Pty) Ltd with CIPC. On registration you get a company registration number and are automatically registered for income tax with SARS.
Typical steps
- Reserve a company name (optional) and register the company at CIPC
- Confirm SARS income-tax registration and get a tax number
- Open a business bank account
- Register for VAT / PAYE if thresholds apply (see the tax guides)
- Get a B-BBEE affidavit if you’ll tender or seek funding
Keep it compliant
Once registered you must file an annual return and beneficial-ownership declaration with CIPC every year (see that guide) and meet your SARS obligations. Dormant companies must still file.
